44 Egyptians flown to Cairo airport by Italian security

Around 44 Egyptians arrived in Cairo Sunday having been arrested and deported by Italian authorities. They were arrested last week on board a ship carrying 125 Egyptians from Alexandria. The remaining 81 are below the age of 18, and remain in custody in Italy as its laws ban the deportation of minors.

Official sources at Cairo airport said the 44 arrived on a private plane from Italy's Catania airport, along with 21 security personnel holding police reports for them as they did not have travel documents.

According to reports, the Egyptians had gathered one day before sailing at a store west of Alexandria, and boarded the sailing boat. Italian authorities arrested them off the coast of Italy.
