FM calls for continued pressure on Israel to reach Gaza ceasefire

NEW YORK, 21 Sept (MENA) – Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Egyptian Expatriates’ Affairs Badr Abdelatty called for continued international pressure on Israel to agree to a ceasefire in Gaza, stop targeting civilians and infrastructure, and allow urgent humanitarian aid to enter the Strip without restrictions.

In a meeting with UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi, Abdelatty called for full respect of international law and humanitarian law, and removal of all obstacles blocking aid delivery.

He discussed the growing pressure on Egypt due to the rising number of refugees and asylum seekers in the country, and asked for greater support from donors to fill funding gaps and assist Egypt in managing these responsibilities.

Abdelatty rejected any plans to forcibly remove Palestinians from their land and warned against efforts to dismantle the Palestinian cause.

He also addressed the crisis in Sudan, pointing to Egypt’s support for stability and efforts to maintain Sudan’s unity and national institutions.

Grandi praised Egypt’s role in responding to regional crises and reaffirmed the UNHCR’s continued cooperation with Egypt across humanitarian issues.
