FM reiterates full support for OCHA amid Gaza ceasefire implementation

CAIRO, Oct 12 (MENA) – Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty Badr Abdelatty reaffirmed Cairo’s full support for the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), aimed at enhancing effective crisis response across the Middle East, particularly in the occupied Palestinian territories.

During a meeting on Sunday with UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Tom Fletcher, Abdelatty praised OCHA’s efforts to protect Palestinian civilians and facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid.

The minister reviewed Egypt’s intensive efforts over the past two years to help end the war in Gaza, and discussed with Fletcher the implementation of the first phase of the recently concluded ceasefire agreement, including measures to ensure sufficient humanitarian access.

Abdelatty stressed the importance of OCHA’s support in scaling up the flow of humanitarian, relief, and medical assistance in view of the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza.

He also briefed the UN official on Egypt’s preparations to host the International Conference on Early Recovery and Reconstruction in cooperation with international partners, expressing Egypt’s aspiration for OCHA’s active participation in the event.

For his part, Fletcher commended Egypt’s determined efforts and tangible contributions to regional stability, as well as its key role in facilitating negotiations that led to the Gaza ceasefire and enabling the entry of essential humanitarian and medical supplies into the enclave.

He confirmed OCHA’s commitment to taking part actively in the upcoming conference on early recovery and reconstruction. (MENA)
