FM: Egypt exerting utmost efforts to expedite int’l conf. on Gaza recovery

CAIRO, Oct 18 (MENA) – Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty Saturday said that Egypt is exerting its utmost efforts, in cooperation with regional and international partners, to shortly organize the international conference on Gaza early recovery and reconstruction, scheduled to be held in Cairo.

Abdelatty made the remarks during a joint press conference on Saturday with his Maldivian counterpart Abdulla Khaleel.

Egypt is closely following up on all developments related to achieving peace and stability in the region, Abdelatty said, highlighting Cairo’s leading role in hosting the Sharm El Sheikh Peace Summit.

“Now, after succeeding in halting the war, we must look ahead and immediately begin negotiations on the second phase of President Trump’s peace plan,” the Egyptian top diplomat said.

He underscored the importance of ensuring complete and unobstructed flow of humanitarian, food, and medical aid into Gaza.

Some 50,000 Palestinians are suffering injuries, many with severe wounds, Abdelatty said, stressing the need to deploy field hospitals and mobile clinics to treat them.

He revealed that discussions are underway to hold the reconstruction conference during the third or fourth week of November, with the exact date to be finalized following ongoing consultations with all relevant parties, including the US, European partners, and Arab and Islamic nations.

The conference will tackle the implementation of the Arab-Islamic plan and President Trump’s framework, particularly regarding Gaza’s development, Abdelatty said.

He added that several countries have expressed interest in co-sponsoring this significant event, and once consensus is reached, an official announcement will be made.

The conference is set to address early recovery plans, providing shelter for displaced Palestinians, and ensuring the provision of essential services, including healthcare, sanitation, and clean water, Abdelatty said.

As regards Sudan, Abdelatty said Egypt is deeply concerned about developments there, noting that Cairo’s efforts focus on ending the humanitarian crisis through a rapid humanitarian truce leading to an immediate ceasefire and an inclusive political process owned and led by the Sudanese themselves.

Responding to a question about the role of the Quartet, which comprises Egypt, the US, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE, in mediating the Sudan crisis, Abdelatty explained that President Abdel Fattah Sisi had invited Abdel Fattah Al Burhan, Chairman of Sudan’s Transitional Sovereignty Council, for a meeting in Cairo.

He added that Egypt remains firmly committed to supporting the Sudanese state and its institutions, particularly the Sudanese Armed Forces. (MENA)
