FM stresses need to implement Sharm El Sheikh Peace Agreement, advance to 2nd phase of Trump plan

CAIRO, Nov 7 (MENA) – Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty on Friday held a phone call with UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper to discuss consolidating the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Agreement and advancing to the second phase of US President Donald Trump’s peace plan.

The ministers also explored ways to strengthen bilateral relations and addressed developments regarding the Palestinian issue and the situation in Sudan.

Regarding Gaza, Abdelatty underlined Egypt’s ongoing efforts with regional and international partners to implement the agreement, ease humanitarian suffering, and support progress toward establishing a Palestinian state.

He welcomed the UK’s recognition of Palestine and briefed Cooper on Egypt’s preparations to host the International Conference on Reconstruction and Early Recovery in Gaza, calling for the UK’s active participation as a key partner.

As for Sudan, Abdelatty condemned atrocities in El Fasher, stressing the urgent need to open humanitarian corridors.

He reaffirmed Egypt’s support for Sudan’s unity, stability, and institutions, noting efforts within the Quad mechanism to achieve a comprehensive ceasefire and coordinate international humanitarian aid.

The two ministers also praised the strong pace of Egypt-UK relations and reaffirmed their commitment to expanding cooperation through high-level visits, enhancing economic, trade, and investment ties. (MENA)
