Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, Badr Abdelatty, held a phone call with his Malian counterpart, Abdullah Diop, to discuss ways to enhance bilateral relations between the two countries and efforts to combat terrorism in the region, and the swift release of the three kidnapped Egyptians in Mali.
During the call, Abdelatty expressed Egypt’s appreciation for the historic relations it shares with Mali, underscoring Cairo’s keenness to build on the positive momentum witnessed in bilateral relations over recent years.
The Egyptian Foreign Minister was briefed on the latest developments in the security situation in Mali and the efforts undertaken by the Malian government to counter terrorism and extremism and restore security and stability in the country.
Abdelatty stressed the utmost importance of working to provide the maximum degree of protection and security for Egyptian citizens residing in Mali.
He also affirmed Egypt’s continuous monitoring of the situation there and constant coordination with Malian authorities to ensure their safety.
Minister Abdelatty specifically requested his Malian counterpart to exert the maximum effort to secure the release of the three kidnapped Egyptians.
The Malian Foreign Minister confirmed that he is closely following up with the relevant ministries and agencies in Mali to clarify the matter and work toward the swift release of the hostages.
The two ministers concluded the call by affirming further coordination between the two countries in various fields to support security, stability, and development in Mali and the African continent.
The Malian Minister confirmed his country’s great keenness on fraternal relations with Egypt, appreciating Egypt’s concern for the security and stability of his country, and noting their commitment to providing security and protection for all Egyptian citizens present in Mali.
