JOHANNESBURG, Nov 21 (MENA) – Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly said Egypt counts on the G20 to find innovative and sustainable solutions to major global economic challenges, particularly with regard to the reform of the international financial architecture, the debt crisis and enhancing access to finance.
The Egyptian premier made the comments on Friday evening during his participation in a business dinner hosted by South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa for African leaders attending the 2025 G20 Summit, held in Johannesburg.
Upon his arrival at the Sandton Convention Centre in central Johannesburg for the business dinner, Madbouli met with Ramaphosa, as he conveyed the greetings of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to the South African leader, expressing Egypt’s appreciation for South Africa’s G20 presidency and for inviting Egypt to attend the summit as a guest country.
The prime minister affirmed Egypt’s support for the priorities of the South African presidency, praising South Africa’s leadership in pushing the G20’s agenda and backing African interests.
On the sidelines of the dinner, an extensive discussion took place among African leaders, as they addressed various issues on the agenda of the 2025 G20 Summit and highlighted key achievements of South Africa’s presidency over the past year, particularly regarding support for African interests and positions within the G20 on issues of common concern.
In this context, the prime minister expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to host an official G20 meeting in Cairo in September 2025, emphasizing this move marks the first time in the history of the group that a “guest country” is given the opportunity to host one of its official meetings.
