Egypt achieves unprecedented number of tourists in 2025: Ministry

Egypt achieved an unprecedented tourism performance in 2025, welcoming approximately 19 million tourists and setting a new record with a growth rate of 21 percent compared to 2024.

Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Sherif Fathy hailed this progress as a “great accomplishment”, one which confirms Egypt’s competitiveness.

He credited the country’s renewed security, stability, and specialized vision on diversifying the types and products of tourism offered to the Egyptian destination.

This growth exceeds the global average growth rate, estimated by the United Nations Tourism Organization at only five percent, Fathy noted, thereby reflecting the confidence of tourists from around the world in Egypt as a diverse and safe tourist destination capable of providing varied and integrated tourism experiences.

In 2025, Cairo, Hurghada, Sharm el-Sheikh, and Marsa Alam airports topped the list of airports receiving the most tourists, reflecting the geographical diversity of Egyptian tourist destinations and their ability to attract different segments of tourists from multiple markets.

Year of tourism

Archaeological sites and museums across the country saw a notable growth in the number of foreign tourists, with all but the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization and the Grand Egyptian Museum receiving 18.6 million visitors, representing a 33.5 percent increase compared to 2024.

The year 2025 also saw significant growth in charter flights (32 percent), while the New Alamein City achieved an exceptional leap, recording a 450 percent increase in charter flight traffic, becoming one of the most prominent new tourist destinations globally.

The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities confirmed that these unprecedented results achieved by the New Alamein City and the North Coast reflect the success of the political leadership’s vision and the ministry’s strategy to diversify tourist destinations, open new horizons for beach, recreational and cultural tourism and create new tourism products based on creating one integrated tourism experience.

Tourist flights last year were operated from 193 cities worldwide to various Egyptian tourist destinations, a clear indication of the expansion of the international air network and the increasing demand for visits to Egypt.

The Minister of Tourism and Antiquities affirmed that the next phase will focus on furthering these results and working towards achieving sustainable tourism growth that will directly impact the national economy and strengthen Egypt’s position as one of the world’s leading tourist destinations.
