CAIRO, Feb 6 (MENA) – Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty said during a telephone call with UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper that coordinated regional and international efforts are crucial at this critical juncture to preserve regional security.
He added that such efforts are needed to promote stability and development in the region.
The call was held within the framework of regular consultations between the two ministers aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and exchanging views on regional developments.
According to Foreign Ministry Spokesman Tamim Khallaf, Abdelatty stressed the importance of building on the positive momentum in Egyptian-British relations and expanding cooperation in the political, economic, and trade fields.
He also underlined the need to increase UK investments in Egypt in the coming years, particularly in light of improvements to the investment climate resulting from recent economic and structural reforms.
Khallaf said the discussions also addressed efforts to de-escalate regional tensions, with Abdelatty briefing his British counterpart on Egypt’s diplomatic engagements aimed at containing escalating tensions.
The foreign minister reiterated the importance of reaching a consensual settlement of the Iranian nuclear issue that takes into account the concerns of all parties.
Regarding developments in the Gaza Strip, Abdelatty reviewed efforts to implement the requirements of the second phase of US President Donald Trump’s plan.
He also stressed the importance of supporting the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (NCAG), the rapid deployment of an international stabilization force to monitor the ceasefire, ensuring the delivery of humanitarian aid, and securing Israeli withdrawal from the territory, noting that these steps would pave the way for early recovery and reconstruction.
Abdelatty also stressed the need to establish a political horizon that fulfills the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinian people to establish an independent state.
The foreign minister also briefed the British foreign secretary on the latest developments in Sudan and Egypt’s active role within the Quartet framework, stressing the importance of a humanitarian truce as a step toward a comprehensive ceasefire and an inclusive, Sudanese-led political process.
He stressed the priority of establishing secure humanitarian corridors and guaranteeing unhindered access for aid to reach the Sudanese people.
Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s firm position in support of Sudan’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, as well as the preservation of its national institutions. (MENA)
