Egypt officially announces Friday, as the first day of Eid al-Fitr

Egypt’s Dar al-Ifta announced on Thursday evening that Friday, March 20, 2026, will mark the first day of Eid al-Fitrand the beginning of the Islamic month of Shawwal 1447 AH.

The announcement followed the official sighting of the new lunar crescent by the nation’s specialized Sharia and scientific committees. After sunset on Thursday, the 29th of Ramadan (March 19), observation teams deployed across various governorates confirmed the visibility of the Hilal (crescent moon), signifying the conclusion of the holy month of fasting.

According to the official statement, Thursday is the final day of Ramadan, and Friday begins the three-day celebration of Eid.
