IDSC reviews impact of Strait of Hormuz tensions on global supply chains

The Cabinet’s Information and Decision Support Center (IDSC) published an infographic, citing Foreign Policy in Focus, highlighting the impact of tensions in the Strait of Hormuz on global supply chain disruptions and congestion.

The infographic said the Strait of Hormuz represents a critical global energy chokepoint through which about 20 million barrels of oil pass daily, making it a key factor exposing the vulnerability of the global economy’s reliance on energy flows.

It noted that any crisis in the strait would have rapid and wide-ranging repercussions on energy supplies, reflected in higher prices, insurance costs and transportation disruptions, particularly amid rising inflation and food prices.

It also highlighted that major maritime routes, including the Suez Canal and the Strait of Hormuz, remain high-risk concentration points where disruptions can trigger cascading effects across multiple sectors.
