Culture minister visits cultural sites in Aswan

Minister of Culture Jehan Zaki visited Aswan on Monday, April 20, 2026, as part of her field tour of Upper Egypt governorates, as part of a series of intensive efforts aimed at supporting and advancing cultural and artistic activity across the country.

During the visit, Zaki is scheduled to inspect a number of cultural sites in the governorate to follow up on their activities and ongoing development work.

These include Abbas El Akkad Culture Palace, Fawzy Fawzy Theater, and Aswan Culture Palace.

As part of her agenda, the minister will meet with Governor of Aswan, Amr Lashin, in the presence of Hisham Atwa, to discuss ways to enhance joint cooperation and support the development of cultural and artistic life in the governorate, in line with its standing as one of the leading cultural capitals on the African continent.

Zaki will also attend the opening of Aswan International Women Film Festival, held under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture.

The current edition kicks off April 20, and runs until April 25.

The festival’s 10th edition is named in honor of pioneering Egyptian filmmaker Aziza Amir, marking the 125th anniversary of her birth and recognizing her major contributions to the foundation of Egyptian cinema.

She starred in and produced Egypt’s first silent feature film, Layla (1927). She is also regarded as the first female director in Egyptian cinema.
