Egypt launches East Nile Monorail first phase – ticket prices announced

Coinciding with the Ministry of Transport’s launch of the first phase of the East Nile Monorail—extending from Al-Mosheer Tantawy Station to Justice City Station in the New Capital—the ministry issued a statement announcing ticket prices and subscription rates to facilitate travel for the public.

Ticket prices were set at approximately half the cost of alternative transportation methods, the statement noted.

Furthermore, subscription rates were designed to offer discounts of up to 50 percent off the ticket price, making the cost of commuting via subscription roughly one-quarter that of alternative transport.

These measures aim to ease the financial burden on passengers while providing world-class service through the monorail system, which represents a significant leap in Egypt’s mass transit infrastructure.

The ministry’s statement detailed the ticket and subscription pricing for the monorail as follows:

Standard full fare

Fares are tiered across four zones based on the distance traveled along the line:

  • One zone (up to five stations): 20 LE
  • Two zones (up to 10 stations): 40 LE
  • Three zones (up to 15 stations): 55 LE
  • Four zones (Full Line – 22 stations): 80 LE

Discounted half-fare

Eligible groups—including senior citizens (60+ years) and persons with disabilities—receive a 50 percent discount:

  • One zone (up to five stations): 10 LE
  • Two zones (up to 10 stations): 20 LE
  • Three zones (up to 15 stations): 30 LE
  • Four zones (Full Line – 22 stations): 40 LE
