Egyptian, Saudi FMs tackle regional developments over phone

Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty discussed bilateral relations and regional developments with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud during a phone call on Sunday, June 28, 2026.

The two ministers affirmed the depth of the strategic ties between Egypt and Saudi Arabia. They stressed their commitment to further strengthening bilateral cooperation across various fields in a manner that serves the interests of both countries and their peoples.

They also exchanged views on regional developments, emphasizing the importance of building on the momentum created by the signing of the memorandum of understanding between the US and Iran to consolidate de-escalation efforts and reduce tensions.

The ministers underscored the importance of safeguarding the Gulf states’ security as an integral part of Arab national security. They also stressed the need to ensure freedom of navigation in accordance with international law and to refrain from any unilateral measures that could disrupt international shipping or global trade.

The discussions also covered developments in Lebanon, the Palestinian issue, and the situation in the Red Sea, in line with the two countries’ shared positions on these issues.

The two ministers agreed to maintain close consultation and coordination during the coming period to support the foundations of regional security and stability, while strengthening joint Arab action in addressing current challenges.
