Burj Khalifa lights up in Egyptian flag colors to celebrate historic World Cup victory

Dubai’s iconic Burj Khalifa was illuminated with the Egyptian flag to celebrate the Egyptian national team’s historic victory over Australia and their subsequent qualification for the Round of 16 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, congratulated Egypt on the national team’s triumph. Taking to his official account on the social media platform X, Sheikh Mohammed stated: “Heartiest congratulations to the Egyptian people and their leadership on the national team’s qualification for the Round of 16 in the World Cup.”

He added, “Today, the joy of the Arab world is Egyptian. A heroic performance, a fighting spirit, and a thoroughly entertaining match by the Pharaohs.” Sheikh Mohammed concluded his post by saying, “We wish all the best to all Arab nations, and continuous joy to our Arab peoples.”

Egypt secured its first-ever spot in the World Cup knockout stage after defeating Australia 4-2 in a dramatic penalty shootout at Dallas Stadium in Texas earlier Friday.
