A member of the Egyptian Greco-Roman wrestling team, Mohamed Hassan, secured a medal for Egypt at the Taranto 2026 Mediterranean Games by qualifying for the final of the 67 kg weight class.
The Egyptian champion defeated Turkey’s Murat Firat 2-0, booking his place in the final and guaranteeing Egypt its first medal in the 20th edition of the Games.
Hassan had previously reached the semi-finals by defeating Croatia’s Dominik Etlinger three to one, a strong start that confirms Egyptian wrestling has come to Taranto not just to make up the numbers, but to compete for gold.
