Egyptian media host Amr Adib and writer Abdel-Rahim Ali broadcasted audio recordings of Muslim Brotherhood leaders during Sunday’s episode of the “al-Hekaya” (The Story) show on MBC Egypt.
The recordings allegedly reveal plans for a new revolution and the formation of a government in exile, RT reported on Sunday.
According to Ali – a writer and researcher specializing in Islamist groups – the leaks document meetings between leaders and members of the Muslim Brotherhood and Egyptian opposition forces abroad.
These meetings reportedly included discussions about instigating political change in Egypt and preparing for what they called a new “revolution,” followed by an agreement on the form of the constitution and the political system of the country.
Ali explained that the obtained recordings total around 30 hours, but could not be broadcast in their entirety for security reasons.
He indicated that these meetings raised the idea of a “civil state” as a formula to avoid early clashes with state institutions and religious movements.
Ali pointed out that the discussions were not limited to preparing a political project.
According to the recordings he presented, they also included discussions about forming a political entity abroad and a government-in-exile that could manage the transitional period should a change occur within Egypt.
According to Ali, these recordings are part of what views to be organized moves to reorganize the ranks of the Muslim Brotherhood and its allies abroad, and to prepare political alternatives that can be used in the event of unrest or a change in the internal Egyptian scene.
