Parliament’s manpower committee on Monday reportedly resolved the grievances of state-run information center employees after the latter staged protests for 28 consecutive days.
The committee ruled to allocate an extra LE100 million to go towards salary increases, bonuses and social and medical security benefits for the workers.
The committee also thanked workers for refraining from shouting inappropriate slogans against government officials during their demonstrations.
Visibly content protesters shook hands with security personnel and vacated their protest venue in front of the parliament building in downtown Cairo.
The area soon became the scene of another protest, however, when people with special needs, who had protested in the same place earlier, returned to stage another demonstration, saying that government officials had failed to keep earlier promises made to them.
Only a few meters away, workers of the Arab-American Company–owned by exiled businessman Adel Agha–continued their sit-in for the second day in a row. They complain that they have not received their rightful salaries in a whopping nine years.
