High elections committee: Postponing elections illegal

Postponing the elections would be illegal, said Yousry Abdel Karim, head of the high elections committee’s technical office. “But if the military council issues a decree to this effect, we will consider alternatives,” he said.

Abdel Karim also said that the military is responsible for securing elections, while the police only help in the process, as he put it.

He said government changes would not affect the committee’s work. “We deal with institutions, not individuals,” he explained.

Committee President Abdel Moez Ibrahim said that the committee has posted voting cards on its website for Egyptian expatriates to use, while it is following-up with print shops to complete the local cards in time.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Amr Rushdy explained that expatriates must print the voting card off the website, complete it and submit it to their respective embassies no later than 26 November at 9 am at their respective local times.
