Activist sues over reports he supported Shafiq

General coordinator for the National Association for Change, Abdel Galil Mostafa, said he would sue the independent daily Al-Watan over reports that claimed he was seeking to join the presidential campaign of former Prime Minister Ahmed Shafiq during the runoffs.

On Monday, Al-Watan reported that Mostafa was seeking to join Shafiq’s campaign.

"Everybody knows I have always demanded Shafiq be arrested and prosecuted over his complicity in the Battle of the Camel," Mostafa said in a statement, referring to a bloody attack by camel and horse riders against anti-regime protesters in February 2011, days before the resignation of former president Hosni Mubarak and during Shafiq's brief premiership.

“I am not resorting to the judiciary to defend my name, but rather the name of those who supported the revolution sincerely," he said.
