Activists plan marches on Jerusalem Day

Egyptian, Palestinian, and Arab political forces are planning marches to the Journalists Syndicate starting out from Abdel Moneim Riad Square in Cairo concurrent with demonstrations in Palestine and in Arab and Islamic capitals at 5 pm to commemorate al-Quds Day (Jerusalem Day).

The march will be followed by a collective iftar at the syndicate and a press conference.

Activist Khaled Kroam, organizer of the march, said in a statement Friday that the International Day of Jerusalem is one way to direct the eyes of Arab and Muslims to the fierce attack by international powers and the Israeli occupation against holy sites in Palestine.

He criticized some Egyptian media outlets for deliberately distorting the image of Palestinian liberation movements by claiming they are against the Egyptian national security.

Kroam said other protests would be staged in north Delta governorates and Upper Egypt.

Ayman Raqab, Secretary General of the Community of the Arab Spring and the Foreign Relations Commissioner of the Fatah Movement in Cairo said that the Islamic holy sites, especially Al-Aqsa Mosque, are exposed to real risk due to plans by the Israeli government to displace the inhabitants of Jerusalem from their land and dig under Al-Aqsa Mosque.

Raqab stressed the Arab identity of Jerusalem and rejected Judaization attempts.
