Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Alaa Farouk witnessed, Tuesday, March 17, the signing of a memorandum of understanding to promote agricultural innovation and translate research into scalable solutions.
The MoU was inked between the Agricultural Research Center and the Alliance of Bioversity International and the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT), affiliated with the Consultative Group for International Agricultural Research (CGIAR).
Farouk said the agreement aligns with Egypt’s strategy to strengthen agricultural innovation systems by linking scientific research with practical applications, benefiting from global expertise alongside national research capabilities.
The partnership will support applied research in biodiversity, climate-smart agriculture, and resilient food systems, while enhancing technology transfer through pilot projects and private-sector collaboration.
It also focuses on capacity building through training programs, knowledge exchange, and cooperation with universities and research centers, in addition to utilizing research facilities for field trials with farmers.
Head of the Agricultural Research Center Adel Abdel Azim said the partnership marks a key step toward sustainable agricultural development and food security.
He highlighted the launch of the “AgriTech4Egypt” initiative, a joint Egyptian-Italian effort aiming at transforming research into market-ready agricultural innovations and boosting productivity and sustainability nationwide.
