At the celebration of the birth anniversary of Prophet Mohamed on Sunday, Al-Azhar Grand Sheikh Ahmed al-Tayeb said the Al-Azhar institution, which participated in crafting the constitution, was satisfied with the draft that will be put up to referendum.
“We are reassured that it achieves the hopes of the Egyptians for freedom, justice and equality,” he said.
The celebration was attended by President Adly Mansour, Prime Minister Hazem al-Beblawy, Defense Minister Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and a number of ministers and state officials.
“Egypt was not built with money or greed,” said al-Tayeb. “It was built by a civilization that dates back more than 7000 years.”
“We did not lose the heritage of our civilization,” he said. “It will return with freedom, justice and stability.”
“The honorable and the wise at home and abroad should support Egypt against terrorists,” he added. “Egyptians were the first of all nations to enjoy progress, stability and prosperity.”
He said terrorism has been a major disaster for Islam. “Islam bans the scaring of people even as a joke,” he said. “Murderers in Islam are sent to hell forever.”
“Those terrorists have tarnished the image of Islam,” he said.
