Ambassador to Moscow: Russia believes Egypt is focus of stability in the region

Egyptian ambassador to Russia Mohamed al-Badry said that most of the Russian media channels described the visit by Defense Minister Field Marshal Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Foreign Minister Nabil Fahmy to Moscow as ‘historic,’ stressing that ties between Cairo and Moscow will not negatively affect relations with any other country.

“Russian President Vladimir Putin was clear on his insight toward Egypt and confirmed to Sisi that Egypt is the focus of stability in the region,” Badry told the privately-owned Al-Hayah TV channel on Friday.

“Russian newspapers praised the role played by Sisi in securing Egyptian citizen,” he added.

Regarding the possible role by Russia in the Nile basin issue and the crisis with Ethiopia, Badry said that Fahmy explained to his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov the crisis about the Renaissance Dam, adding that the Russians expressed interest in compromising this issue fairly in a way that conform to interests of everyone.

Badry concluded saying that Russia totally realizes that Egypt is in a fierce battle against terrorism as well as dangers of such battles.
