Antiquities ministry to move 39 ancient mummies from Egyptian Museum

The antiquities ministry is preparing for the transfer of 39 royal mummies and their sarcophagi from their current exhibition at the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir Square to a permanent exhibition at the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization in Fustat.

Antiquities Minister Khaled al-Anani met with Cairo Governor Khaled Abdel Aal and representatives from the ministry of defense to discuss the details and required vehicles for the transfer.

The number of mummies and coffins to be transported are 22 royal mummies and 17 royal coffins, dating back to the 17th, 18th, 19th and 20th dynasties.

Among those to be transferred are 18 mummies of kings and four of queens, including King Seqenenre Tao, King Rameses II, King Tuthmosis III, King Seti I, Queen Hatshepsut, Queen Ahmose-Meritamun, wife of Amenhotep I, Queen Mert Amun, and Queen AhmoseNefertari, wife of King Ahmose.
