A statement by the International Media Office of Qatar said that Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim al-Thani confirmed that the US and Iran are continuing efforts to reach an agreement.
“Reports circulating online claiming that His Excellency the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs stated that the United States and Iran had failed to reach an agreement are false and misleading,” the statement said.
The statement added that “His Excellency’s remarks have been deliberately distorted by those who benefit from continued war and instability in our region. Many of these claims are being spread by fake accounts trying to undermine diplomatic efforts and push for further escalation. This is deeply irresponsible.”
Bloomberg previously reported, citing the Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, that the US and Iran had failed to reach a “comprehensive agreement,” according to the Hebrew-language newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth.
An official from the US Central Command (CENTCOM) told Al Jazeera that the command would issue an announcement regarding Iran at 8:30 am Saturday (Washington time), though he declined to disclose the nature of the announcement.
Meanwhile, the Iranian news agency Tasnim reported that two missiles had struck Qeshm Island, located in the Arabian Gulf; no official information has yet been released regarding the extent of any potential damage.
