Arab League urges financial help for Palestinian Authority

The Arab League urged its members to fulfill their financial obligations to the Palestinian Authority, which is currently undergoing financial strains that might lead to its collapse.

Assistant Secretary General for the Arab League for Palestinian Affairs, Mohamed Sobeih, said that no new payments were made recently. However, he added that two states are giving good indication that they are serious about paying soon. He refused to name the two countries, and said that neither has set a date for delivering their financial aid.

Sobeih said that Secretary General Amr Moussa gave more than one notification to the Arab foreign ministers to insist that their countries fulfill their financial commitments to the Palestinians.

“Direct communication is made between the League and its member states to solve this important issue, especially in relation to the support of Jerusalem, which is being subjected to a massive Judaization campaign," Sobeih told Al-Masry Al-Youm.

Sobeih said that new payments and their sources will be announced as soon as they are deposited into banks and can be documented.
