Araby invited to Tehran for conference on Palestine

Arab League Secretary General Nabil al-Araby received an invitation on Tuesday for the fifth Conference on Palestine, sponsored by Tehran and set to take place in October.

Alaa al-Din Boroujerdi, the chairman of the Iranian Islamic Consultative Assembly's National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, handed the invitation to Araby during their meeting in Cairo on Tuesday.

After the meeting, Boroujerdi gave Iran’s blessing to the historical Egyptian revolution, saying, “What happened in Egypt is great.”

He also expressed Iran's hope for a renaissance in Egypt, as it is holding parliamentary and presidential elections soon.

Boroujerdi added that because Egypt and Iran are important countries, if they work in concert they will positively affect the region and the rest of the world.

Asked about normalizing relations with Iran, Boroujerdi said Iran wanted to wait for the new Egyptian parliament to be elected before discussing such issues.

Boroujerdi arrived in Cairo on Monday from Doha for a two-day visit.
