Armed Bedouins block Nuweiba road demanding relatives’ release

Armed Bedouins from central Sinai blocked the Nuweiba road Sunday to demand the release of their detained relatives, a security source said.

“A group of armed Bedouins are keeping hundreds of vehicles from passing in the Sadr al-Hitan area, calling for the release of all Sinai detainees,” the source told AFP. He said the vehicles were coming from the Libyan border and heading to Nuweiba.

On 10 February, armed Bedouins kidnapped three South Korean female tourists and their Egyptian tour guide in South Sinai, and demanded the release of their relatives held by police.

A week earlier, two American tourists and their Egyptian tour guide were briefly abducted by armed Bedouins.

At the end of January, Bedouin captors held Chinese workers in a cement plant in South Sinai for almost 20 hours.
