Grand Imam of al Azhar Sheikh Ahmed al-Tayyeb met, Tuesday, March 31, 2026, Saudi Ambassador to Egypt Saleh bin Eid al-Husseini to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation between al-Azhar and religious institutions in Saudi Arabia.
al-Tayyeb said that ties between al-Azhar and Saudi Arabia are strong and historical, stressing the importance of continued coordination to address challenges facing the Islamic world. He also condemned attacks targeting civilian and economic facilities in Saudi Arabia and Gulf countries.
For his part, the Saudi ambassador expressed appreciation for al-Azhar’s role in promoting moderation and discussed regional developments and ways to expand cooperation in religious and academic fields.
