Brotherhood: Copts and women among founders of new political party

A senior member of the Muslim Brotherhood has stated that the group's political party, which is still under construction, counts women and Copts among its founding members.

“Founders of our group’s Freedom and Justice Party include Copts and women,” said the Brotherhood's Secretary General Mahmoud Hussein.

The group’s Shura Council member Helmy al-Gazzar explained that the party’s program is currently being reviewed by all branches.

“We shall consider all remarks and come up with a final version of the program in ten days,” he said.

In related news, group spokesman Essam al-Arian said the group is holding meetings with Coptic leaders as part of Brotherhood Supreme Guide Mohamed Badie's initiative to assure Copts that the group supports the principle of citizenship.

“We look forward to joint political activities,” said al-Arian.
