Calls for million-man labor protest against corruption

The Coalition of Independent Revolutionaries, the Independent Trade Union and the National Center for Popular Committees called for a million-man protest on Friday to demand a law to protect the freedom to form unions and to eliminate favoritism and corruption in hiring processes.

Diaa Haddad, the labor coordinator for the Coalition of Independent Revolutionaries, said they are calling for independent unions and the National Center for Popular Committees to take part in the protest. He added that the protest is intended to highlight corrupt practices inherited from the Mubarak era.

He also said there is a need to expedite the issuing of a law on the formation of unions, and to link the minimum wage to the increase in prices.

He also said they will push for the protection of employees' rights in the private sector, and for the combatting of unemployment.
