Clashes in Rafah kill young man

One young man died in Rafah, North Sinai, after members of a family attacked the homes of a rival family with automatic weapons and rocket-propelled grenades, eyewitnesses told Al-Masry Al-Youm.

An Egyptian security source told Al-Masry Al-Youm that the clashes between the families erupted over financial disputes.

Eyewitnesses said two houses were blown up on Tuesday during the events.

Some residents have demanded the armed forces restore order to the border city. Tribal chiefs, meanwhile, are intervening to prevent tensions from growing.

Since the uprising that ousted former president Hosni Mubarak in January 2011, Rafah has void of security forces, with only army units are deployed along the borderline between the city and the Palestinian Gaza Strip.
