Copts praise Sisi for cathedral visit on Christmas

Founder of the General Union of Copts for the Homeland Karim Kamal praised President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on Thursday for visiting the Cathedral of St. Mark in Abbasia to wish Copts a happy Coptic Christmas holiday on Wednesday evening.

Sisi's visit established the state of citizenship under the slogan "We are all Egyptians" regardless of religion, said Kamal.

Kamal said Copts are not accustomed to the president being present among them, but Sisi's recent visit is a real start to helping underline what citizenship in Egypt means.

Coptic business tycoon Naguib Sawiris also praised Sisi's visit to the cathedral to take part in the celebration of Christmas.

Sawiris said on his Twitter account Wednesday evening: "May God never suspend your habit," in reference to the visit.
