Court grants divorce for woman at center of Imbaba sectarian violence

The Monufiya Family Court has granted the divorce of Abir Talaat Fakhry, the woman at the heart of sectarian violence in Imbaba in May, which left 15 people dead.

The 25-year-old Fakhry had filed a lawsuit on 20 March, requesting divorce on the grounds that she had converted to Islam, while her Coptic husband had remained a Christian. She had married Fahmy in 2006 when she was still a Christian.

Fakhry now lives in Monufiya with her daughter Mariam.
