Court to resume trial of 30 defendants over storming Safaga Police Station

The Red Sea Criminal Court, headed by Judge Mahmoud Khalaf, began the fourth session of the Safaga Police Station break-in trial on Tuesday morning amid tight security measures.

The 30 defendants are charged with storming and burning Safaga Police Station, freeing a number of prisoners and the theft of weapons and ammunition.

The court will listen to the prosecution witnesses.

A fight broke out on 2 May 2012, in the city of Safaga that developed into storming and burning the police station.

Six suspects are fugitive and 24 others were arrested and referred to court in July 2013.
