Deaths from collapsed building in Alexandria rise to five 

Civil Protection Forces on Tuesday recovered a fifth body from the collapsed building in Sidi Beshr area, east of Alexandria, bringing the total number of victims to five dead and four injured so far.

The search continues for more victims under the rubble.

The body was transferred to the morgue at the disposal of the Public Prosecution.

Security services have arrested the owner of the last floor and the contractor responsible for building without a license in the property, after investigations concluded that he carried out construction work on the last floor despite the issuance of a demolish order.

The Public Prosecution has ordered them both be detained for four days pending investigations.

A 14-story building used for rent to vacationers collapsed on Monday on Khalil Hamada Street, in the Montazah district.

Governor of Alexandria Mohamed al-Sharif, inspected the site of the incident and confirmed that a cordon was imposed in the area and that Civil Defense Forces are at the scene of the accident actively searching for victims.
