Democratic Coalition denies membership to three parties

The Democratic Coalition, which includes 28 political parties, has rejected three parties wishing to join it, on the grounds that they were implicated in attempts to bequeath power to Gamal Mubarak, son of ousted President Hosni Mubarak.

The coalition also postponed the applications of four more parties wishing to join it.

Sources within the coalition report that there are differences between the Muslim Brotherhood’s Freedom and Justice Party and the Wafd Party, as the former intends to contend over 33.5 percent of the parliamentary seats in the upcoming elections, while the latter intends to run in over 40 percent, leaving only 26.5 percent for all other parties of the coalition.
