Dialysis deaths prompt Egypt’s Health Ministry to check medical equipment nationwide

 

Minister of Health and Population Hala Zayed on Sunday formed a committee to revise medical equipment such as electromechanical devices and hemodialysis machines nationwide, following recent deaths in a Sharqia hospital.

Zayed said that the ministry would implement the decision in coordination with the governors within specific timeline after the death of three people in al-Sharqia’s Deyerb Negm Central Hospital hospital, with other patients believed to be infected.

The Minister contacted with Dean of Medicine Faulty in Zaqaziq University to follow up the the health condition of the other dialysis patients, who are currently being treated at the Zaqaziq University Hospital.

Three patients have died while seven more were referred to intensive care following a dialysis session at Deyerb Negm Hospital on Friday.

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly instructed Health Minister Hala Zayed to head quickly to Deyerb Negm Central Hospital and follow up on the incident.

Zayed inspected the Deyerb Negm Central Hospital on Saturday and ordered to close the dialysis unit in the hospital, opening an urgent investigation upon Madbouly’s instructions.
