Education Ministry considers establishing private security company to protect schools

The Ministry of Education is considering the establishment of a private security company to protect the country’s 45,000 schools, which have been exposed to repeated robberies and attacks, said Major General Hossam Abouel Magd, director of the Ministry of Education’s Central Department for Security.

In a statement to Al-Masry Al-Youm, Abouel Magd said, “Plans are under way to establish this private security company through the ministry's special support fund”.

“The idea for this project came as a result of plans to buy LE500 million worth of technology for schools. Due to the expense, we cannot leave schools unprotected,” he explained.

Abouel Magd added that according to statistics prepared by the Central Department for Security, “14 schools in seven governorates were robbed this month, while 42 schools were robbed during the 2010-2011 school year.
