Egypt applies new prices of electricity segments for 2024

The prices of Egypt’s electricity segments increased on Tuesday, after being postponed three consecutive times since July 2022.

Prices for the four segments of electricity consumption have risen by rates ranging between 16-26 percent.

Below are the prices of the new SIM cards:

  • 0 to 50 kilowatts: 58 piasters
  • 51 to 100 kilowatts: 68 piasters
  • 0 to 200 kilowatts: 83 piasters
  • 201 to 350 kilowatts: 125 piasters
  • 351 to 650 kilowatts: 140 piasters
  • 0 to 1000 kilowatts: 150 piasters
  • 0 to over 100 kilowatts: 165 piasters

The increase in electricity prices aims to improve the efficiency of energy use, alongside improving the financial resources of the electricity sector.

Experts anticipate that the increase will result in a rise in the cost of industrial production, and thus increase in the prices of goods and services.

However, Egypt’s government has assured that the increase in electricity prices will remain within reasonable limits.

It will take measures to help poorer citizens mitigate the effects of the increase, such as increasing the value of government subsidies for electricity.

This ensures that up to 98 percent of citizens will benefit from it, as well as providing direct financial assistance to low-income citizens.
