Egypt, Denmark discuss boosting cooperation in clean, renewable energy

Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat has discussed in a meeting with Denmark’s ambassador to Egypt Lars Bo Møller, ways of fostering cooperation in clean and renewable energy.

In a statement released on Thursday 19/2/2026, the Electricity Minister praised the strong relations between Egypt and Denmark, stressing the importance of expanding collaboration and creating new opportunities for Danish companies working in clean and renewable energy, as part of Egypt’s national energy strategy.

Esmat highlighted ongoing efforts to localize the production of electrical equipment related to solar and wind energy, as well as to implement projects aimed at supporting and strengthening the power grid, in accordance with the national energy strategy.

Egypt is targeting a renewable energy share of more than 42% of its electricity mix by 2030 and 65% by 2040. He underlined the importance of training programs and expertise exchange, while reaffirming the role of the private sector as a key partner in renewable energy projects.

The minister said the Egyptian State attaches particular importance to the electricity sector as part of its sustainable development plan.

In this regard, Esmat pointed to Egypt’s abundant renewable energy sources, especially solar and wind power, and noted that the country is seeking to maximize returns from them.

He added that the government has taken all necessary steps to create an attractive investment climate and enhance the private sector’s involvement in clean and renewable energy.

For his part, the Danish ambassador praised the expertise of Egypt’s electricity sector’s expertise and highlighted the importance of ongoing collaboration in clean and renewable energy.

Møller expressed Denmark’s keenness on encouraging Danish companies to inject new investments into clean and renewable energy projects in Egypt.
