A five-day national break is set to begin this Thursday, as public and private sector employees prepare for an extended official holiday through Monday.
This comes in accordance with official decisions issued by the relevant authorities and labor laws.
Five days of paid leave
This holiday is one of the longest consecutive breaks of the year, combining religious occasions, weekends, and a national holiday.
These holidays come within the framework of a decision issued by the Minister of Labor, which stipulated granting Coptic Christian employees in the private sector five days of official paid leave during their religious holidays.
Under the new directive, a multi-day holiday break has been outlined: Christian employees will observe Maundy Thursday, April 9 and Easter Sunday, April 12 as official holidays, alongside the standard Friday and Saturday weekend. Additionally, all citizens nationwide will receive Monday, April 13, as a paid public holiday in celebration of Sham al-Nessim.
This brings the total holiday to five consecutive days, combining religious occasions and official holidays.
Holidays for Different Denominations
The decisions were not limited to a specific denomination; they also included Christian employees from both the Catholic and Protestant denominations.
The decision stipulated that they would be granted official paid holidays for occasions such as New Year’s Day, Christmas, and Easter, under a framework of unifying rights and equal opportunities for all employees.
