Egypt reopens Gaza border crossing

Egypt opened the Rafah border crossing with the Gaza Strip on Saturday, following at least a week of closures.

Palestinian officials said the crossing was opened at 10 am. Only holders of foreign and Egyptian passports, as well as medical patients, would be allowed access, they added.

Hamas government sources said communications with Egyptian authorities had succeeded in getting three bodies killed by Israeli shelling on Friday across the border.

Al-Qassam Brigades, Hamas’s military wing, said on Friday the three victims were members of the armed organization and were killed during an Israeli attack on south Gaza.

Five Israeli soldiers were reported injured in the border clashes to the north of the Gaza Strip.
