Egypt to return Palestinian pilgrims to Gaza through Rafah

Cairo International Airport authorities announced Thursday that Egypt is arranging with the Palestinian Embassy in Cairo to transport 8000 returning Palestinian Umra pilgrims to the Gaza Strip through the Rafah border crossing.

Authorities said the airport will start receiving large numbers of Palestinian pilgrims from EgyptAir and Saudi Arabian Airlines after Laylat al-Qadr – the anniversary of the night in which Muslims believe the first verses of the Quran were revealed to the Prophet Mohamed – which falls on the 27th day of Ramadan.

The same sources added that on Thursday, 43 Palestinian pilgrims arrived at the airport on EgyptAir flights from Jedda, in addition to seven more Palestinians arriving from other countries. The sources said the 50 Palestinians were then transported to Gaza.
