Arab League (AL) Secretary General Ahmed Abul Gheit said that Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and EU share almost identical viewpoint on the necessity of reaching a ceasefire in Gaza.
This came during a meeting held on Monday between the foreign ministers of Jordan and Saudi Arabia and the EU.
On his “X” account, Abul Gheit said that the identical viewpoint is related to the Gaza Strip and the necessity of putting an end to the Israeli war along with reaching a political solution, which leads to implementing the two-state solution.
“We need to engage in more dialogue at the various levels to reach the required Arab-European consensus,” he added.

EU institutions keen to upgrade relations with Egypt, says European Commission VP
Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry held a meeting on Monday with European Commission Vice-President for Promoting the European Way of Life Margaritis Schinas as part of the foreign minister’s meetings in Brussels ahead of the 10th session of the EU-Egypt Association Council, slated for Tuesday.
The European Commission vice-president was keen to convey a political message to the Egyptian foreign minister on the EU institutions’ awareness of the importance of upgrading Egypt-EU relations to the level of comprehensive strategic partnership and fostering bilateral cooperation through new axes of cooperation, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid said.
Schinas asserted the European Commission’s keenness on swiftly completing all procedures related to the launch of such a comprehensive strategic partnership in a way that shall have a positive and tangible impact on all areas of bilateral cooperation.
Meanwhile, Shoukry welcomed the EU institutions’ positive stance as regards upgrading relations with Egypt in light of both sides’ awareness of the importance of those relations for bolstering development, security and stability in the region as well as for confronting common regional and international challenges.
The meeting included consultation on means of bolstering cooperation in the migration field, the spokesman said.
Shoukry reviewed the successful efforts exerted by the Egyptian State to confront illegal migration.
Those efforts have contributed to stopping all illegal migration boats heading to Europe from Egypt since September 2016 based on a comprehensive approach that extends to the development and social aspects of the phenomenon, the foreign minister said.
He noted that Egypt hosts over 9 million refugees and migrants, pointing out to the country’s strenuous efforts to provide them with all services despite the economic challenges faced by Egypt.
