Egypt supplies aid to Lebanon to help confront cholera outbreak

An Egyptian military transport plane has taken off loaded with large quantities of medicines and medical supplies, provided by the Ministry of Health and Population.

The plane is headed to Lebanon to help confront the outbreak of the cholera, in implementation of the directives of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.

Lebanese officials expressed their appreciation for this sincere gesture by Egypt.

The efforts are to combat the issues facing Lebanon at present. This continuous support of the Egyptian government to Lebanon is to help control the epidemic before exacerbating.

On the sidelines of receiving the Egyptian aid, the Lebanese Minister of Health, Firas al-Abyad also took the opportunity to thank his friends in Egypt, its leadership, government and its people, for standing by Lebanon in this one of many crises.

There are many problems at the moment, whether health or otherwise.

“We are sure that with this support and assistance from the brothers, Lebanon will be able to overcome the ordeals it is going through,” he added.

The disease had been in decline for years, but 2022 witnessed what the United Nations called “a worrying upsurge” around the globe. The World Health Organization (WHO) says that since January, 29 countries have reported outbreaks.

For the previous five years, fewer than 20 countries on average reported outbreaks. The leading cause of the rise, says WHO, is water contamination.
