Egypt top destination for Russian tourists despite regional tensions

Egypt has become the top beneficiary of redistributed tourist flows in the Middle East, securing its position as a preferred destination for Russian travelers thanks to safety and direct flight availability.

According to data from the Russian Union of Travel Industry (PCT) and travel operator Fun&Sun, demand for Egypt rose by 21 percent in February and March compared to 2025, RT reported.

Egypt now accounts for 38 percent of the company’s total sales, with monthly demand surging by 34 percent in March alone.

About 50 percent of Fun&Sun clients select Egypt as a strategic alternative to other regional destinations, said the company’s public relations officer.

Meanwhile, PCT board member Artur Muradian noted that average individual expenditure rose by 13 percent to $942.

As for market growth, Russia’s tour operator “Intourist” reported a nearly threefold increase in demand, up 188 percent compared to last year.

According to Muradian, Sharm El-Sheikh and Hurghada remain travelers’ favorites, with Sharm El-Sheikh benefiting from free entry visas and hotel diversity.

Egypt also ranked second among the top three destinations for May, ahead of domestic Russian travel and Abkhazia.

With stable hotel rates, experts predict limited charter flight availability could influence final package prices.
