Egypt urges de-escalation in Yemen, voices confidence in Saudi, UAE approach

CAIRO, Dec 30 (MENA) – Egypt said on Tuesday it is closely and continuously monitoring recent developments in Yemen through intensive, round-the-clock contacts at the highest levels with all concerned parties.

In a statement issued by the foreign ministry, Egypt said it has full confidence in the keenness of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates to deal wisely with the current developments in Yemen, within a framework that upholds the values of fraternity between the two sisterly countries and preserves Arab unity and a shared destiny at a critical stage for Yemen and the wider region.

Egypt expressed its deep appreciation for the wisdom shown by the Saudi and Emirati leaderships in adopting a constructive approach to developments in Yemen, stressing their commitment to achieving stability in the country and safeguarding its sovereignty and the interests of its people.

The statement said Egypt will spare no effort in continuing its sustained contacts with Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, the Yemeni side and other relevant regional and international parties to help de-escalate tensions.

It added that these efforts aim to pave the way for a comprehensive political settlement in Yemen that fulfills the legitimate aspirations of the Yemeni people for a safe and prosperous future, while supporting security and stability across the region.
