Egypt’s Ambassador in Ramallah Ihab Suleiman affirmed on Monday, January 26, 2026, during his meeting with Hussein Al-Sheikh, Vice President of the State of Palestine and Vice Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), Egypt’s full support for the Palestinian National Authority as the sole legitimate representative of the Palestinian people, and the importance of empowering it to assume its responsibilities across all Palestinian territories, including the Gaza Strip.
The meeting underscored support for the technocratic National Committee for the Administration of Gaza, in a manner that contributes to creating the necessary environment to enable the Palestinian Authority to carry out its role in the Strip, while also reaffirming the geographic, political, and legal unity of all Palestinian territories.
The two sides also discussed Egyptian efforts related to monitoring the implementation of the second phase of U.S. President Donald Trump’s plan, enhancing the delivery of urgent humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip to help alleviate citizens’ suffering and strengthen the emergency humanitarian response, in addition to ongoing joint coordination regarding the Rafah crossing.
In this context, the Egyptian ambassador stressed Egypt’s categorical rejection of any proposal aimed at liquidating the Palestinian cause through the displacement of the Palestinian people from their land, whether in the Gaza Strip or the West Bank.
Ways to address Israeli violations in the West Bank were also discussed, including the unprecedented expansion of settlements, settler attacks across Palestinian territories, and the financial blockade imposed on the Palestinian Authority.
The meeting emphasized the importance of seizing the opportunity created by advancing the current peace track in Gaza to establish peace throughout all Palestinian territories, by launching a political process aimed at reaching a comprehensive settlement leading to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions, as a guarantee for achieving sustainable regional stability.
For his part, Hussein Al-Sheikh stressed the importance of continued Egyptian-Palestinian coordination, expressing appreciation for Egypt’s historic role in its continued support for the Palestinian cause and the Palestinian National Authority, as well as the sincere efforts of the Egyptian political leadership to establish peace and stability in the region.
